Christianity: a Brief Description

Christianity is a major religion coming from the life, teachings and death of Jesus of Nazereth in the 1st century A.D. There are now more than 1,700,000,000 Christians in the world spread over all the continents of the world and divided into three main branches; the Roman Catholics, the Eastern Orthodox and the Protestant or Reform Tradition.

The Christian faith involves a way of life. The ways and beliefs of Christianity are taken from The Bible and teachings of the church fathers. The scriptures and the teachings are believed ot be inspired by God for the saving of mans soul. The Bible as the sacred scripture of Christianity mixes history and moral teachings. These teachings are often in the form of descriptions of peoples lives both moral and immoral. Christians are encouraged to emmulate the former and avoid in themselves and others, the later. The evolution of Christianity to modern Christianity is a very interesting history, some of it well known and some of it less known, that spans almost 2,000 years. We will try and talk about history as well as describe many of the various branches. I ask for help here if you are familiar with a branch that hasn't been mentioned please write or E-Mail me so I can add to our knowledge base and hopefully broaden our understanding. Thank You!!
